FunPun Folly

This FUN(Fun Urban Networking), PUN(Positive Urban arratives) Folly is a participatory project and includes a plan for crowd-sourcing. Initially, a nation-wide competition was held to collect various ideas. Eight teams of architects and artists both in and out of Gwangju were invited to compete, and four semi-finalist teams were chosen by the panel of judges. The winner was finally selected through discussions and a final vote by a panel of citizens and experts. The winning team including architect, Kim, Chan Joong, a symbol of innovation in the Korean architectural scene and Jin, Siyon, an international artist from the area, is busy working on developing ideas for this exciting folly.

LIGHT PASSAGE is located in the narrowest alley of Chungjangno. It allows visitors to travel to another space, not through virtual portals but Through their actual movement. Opening the door, visitors meet LED lines inspired by silk threads installed as if they are weaving buildings together. They guide them to the public parking lot and sometimes detect and follow visitors’ movements. The once dead space becomes a passage to another space and at the same time relate with people through interactive light.

Just as it is read, Fun Pun Folly is a folly for joy and pleasure. Consisting of booths installed in 4 different sites, each reflects different themes while occupying abandoned or unexpected spaces. By opening the door of each Folly, you encounter a new world of light. Inspired by an organic being through which the light of Gwangju could flow, it draws the attention and interest of visitors while providing interactive contents based on different forms of light.

MEDIA CELL, INFINITY LIGHT, MEDIA WALL

Kim, Chan Joong & Jin, Siyon

MEDIA CELL, INFINITY LIGHT, and MEDIA WALL, which have served as channels for new dimensions due to unexpected penetration of space, move places with the concept of portable cells that were originally intended as changes in the city. A unified, organic form of Gate leaves only a door for communication that connects the places between the existing buildings, leaving pleasant memories and relaxing.
