Gwangju Folly 5 BARE - Air Folly (Material Circularity) BARE(Jinhong Jeon, Yunhee Choi) focuses on ‘circulation’ and ‘symbiosis’ as key concepts for a sustainable city. As part of the Gwangju Folly 5 ‘Re:Folly’, «Air Folly – Material Circularity» is a series of material experiments that propose biodegradable seaweed as an alternative to plastic. Through the development, experimentation, and application of biodegradable plastics made with discarded seaweed wastes, BARE proposes an alternative perspective on the circular economy towards a sustainable and resilient future. Following from the «Circular City» showcase (10-19 November 2023, Act Festival 2023) sections A-C, the exhibition is divided into three sections D-F: In Section D Good Plastic, a video follows the process of turning seaweed wastes into usable biomass in the local seaweed farming industry in the South Jeolla Province. In Section E Into the Ocean and the Earth, various material experimentation into the seaweed-based biodegradable plastics is shown in Air Folly. In the last section F Back to Life, the project diversifies and extends through applications in clothing. ● Date : 2024.6.18.(TUE) ~ 7.14(SUN) / (TUE–SUN) 10:00–18:00 ※ Closed every Monday ● Venue : ACC Children, Lobby Air Folly is an architectural engagement with the life-cycle of materials, considering its production, use and afterlife. By prioritizing biodegradation as well as a diversity of uses, BARE proposes a circular economy that integrates good design and minimize waste. |
